FAQs

Is Palliative Care right for me?

If you are living with a life-threatening illness and curative treatments associated with the disease have the potential to cause you discomfort, then palliative care is right for you. It helps you gain the strength to carry on with daily life. It improves your ability to tolerate medical treatments. It also improves communication so that you can better understand your choices for treatment and have more control over your healthcare.

Do i have to change doctors?

Absolutely not. Our team is here to work with you and your doctor to ensure a collaborative health environment.

How do I pay for Palliative Care?

Shepherd’s Cove Palliative Care is supported by community donations and grant funding, which helps us provide compassionate care to those who need it most. While much of our program is funded through this generous support, we may bill your insurance for nurse practitioner visits as part of your care plan. We are committed to making care accessible and will work with you to help navigate your coverage.

Can I receive curative treatments while on Palliative Care?

Yes! Our job is to help you be more comfortable and maintain the best possible quality of life while you are undergoing your treatments. We know that many medical treatments and diagnoses will take a physical, emotional, and spiritual toll on the person. Our goal is to bridge the gap that may exist in your personal healthcare journey–to provide care to the whole person rather than just targeting the illness.

How do I get Palliative Care?

Talk to your doctor, fill out the referral form, or give us a call at 256.891.7724, and we will help you get started.

Where can i receive palliative care?

Palliative care through Shepherd’s Cove is currently available in the comfort of your own home for patients living in Marshall, DeKalb, and Etowah Counties. We are committed to reaching more communities and are actively exploring grants and partnerships to expand our service area in the future.
